How the First Session Goes (90 minutes)
1. Conversation with parents (30-40 minutes)
Discussing reasons for seeking help, child's developmental history, family situation, previous experience with support
2. Interaction with the child (30-40 minutes)
Getting acquainted, observation, play or conversation depending on age
3. Feedback and plan (20 minutes)
First impressions, recommendations, discussing therapy plan
What to Bring
- Medical documents (if there are diagnoses)
- School reports or characteristics
- Results of previous assessments
- List of questions you want to discuss
How to Prepare Your Child
For toddlers (2-6 years): "We're going to see a special doctor who helps children through play"
For schoolchildren (7-12 years): "We'll meet with a psychologist - someone who helps cope with difficulties"
For teenagers (13+): Honestly explain why you think help would be useful, but give them a chance to express themselves
What Happens After the First Consultation
After the first meeting, I will offer:
- Recommendations for further work
- Meeting frequency (usually once a week)
- Estimated therapy duration
- Goals and objectives
- Homework or strategies for parents
