First Consultation with a Child Psychologist

What to expect at the first meeting and how to prepare for a consultation in Rishon LeZion

How the First Session Goes (90 minutes)

    1. Conversation with parents (30-40 minutes)

Discussing reasons for seeking help, child's developmental history, family situation, previous experience with support

    2. Interaction with the child (30-40 minutes)

Getting acquainted, observation, play or conversation depending on age

    3. Feedback and plan (20 minutes)

First impressions, recommendations, discussing therapy plan

    What to Bring

    • Medical documents (if there are diagnoses)
    • School reports or characteristics
    • Results of previous assessments
    • List of questions you want to discuss

    How to Prepare Your Child

For toddlers (2-6 years): "We're going to see a special doctor who helps children through play"

For schoolchildren (7-12 years): "We'll meet with a psychologist - someone who helps cope with difficulties"

For teenagers (13+): Honestly explain why you think help would be useful, but give them a chance to express themselves

What Happens After the First Consultation

After the first meeting, I will offer:

    • Recommendations for further work
    • Meeting frequency (usually once a week)
    • Estimated therapy duration
